Ordering from an Internet Company

Many customers are concerned about ordering from an Internet company. We share those concerns and have a few suggestions on things we have learned. Many of these things may apply to non Internet companies as well!

1) Look carefully at the web site from the company you want to order from. Do you see typographical and grammatical errors? Are there links and pages that don't work right? If a company has this lack of attention to detail in how they present themselves it may translate to how they conduct the rest of their business. Do they just have a 1 or 2 page web site? Most reliable companies have more extensive web sites. Surf around the dozens of pages we offer and maybe you will find more things we can do for you!

2) Is it just an Internet company? Most reliable companies actually have physical locations, business licenses, offices, desks, employees, local business phone numbers, etc. This information should be on the company web site something like our Contact Us page. We don't usually buy from companies that have no other way to contact them than online.

3) Is there information about the company and its business practices on the web site? Most reliable companies tell you something about themselves on an About Us or Profile page.

4) What other companies does the company in question represent. Most reliable companies have developed business relationships with other industry leading companies and usually tell you something about that on their web site as we do on our Partners page.

5) How does the company handle confidential information you send them (like credit card numbers)? There should be a statement similar to our Privacy Policy on the web site. You might want to actually read what these say because some of them don't make much sense, some may require an advanced law degree to understand, and some actually tell you they are not protecting your data and are selling it! (Sort of a non Privacy Policy)

6) Does the company clearly state its policies about warranties, returns and exchanges? We try to make it clear and reasonable.

7) Does the company respond to Emails? We have sent Emails to companies that never replied or sent us a meaningless reply days or weeks later! During regular business hours we reply to Emails within hours not days. After hours we reply the following business day unless it is an emergency and we are asked to reply sooner.

8) Does someone knowledgeable actually answer the phone or does it always go to voice mail or a service that can only take a message? We currently answer 99% of all calls between 10AM Eastern and 7PM Eastern Monday - Thursday and 6PM Eastern Friday and selected Saturday morning's each month. Yes, sometimes calls do go to voice mail (less than 1 in 100) when we are very busy, but we always return those calls promptly.

9) If you ask for things like the company's FEIN or D&B Number or who gets a RFP or RFQ, do you get more questions than answers? We deal with this stuff all the time and understand when and what information you may need to work with us.

10) Don't be fooled by the fact that a company accepts Credit Cards for payment. It has to be a very bad company for them to not be allowed to take Credit Cards. Credit Card companies get a few percent of the amount  when you sell something and usually the same percentage if you take it back. They only drop merchants if the returns and complaints are so high they can't afford to handle them anymore. Buying by Credit Card give you, the consumer, extra protection from the credit card company. But it does little if anything to attest for the reliability of the company you are buying from. Buying from reliable businesses (like ours) gives you added peace of mind. We see it as a win-win situation.
